Hats for the C-Word

The 'C-word'; cancer is a terrifying diagnosis! La Plata County lacks both medical options and support communities for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation. The Flying Hatter has launched "Hats for the C-word" an initiative offering hat making workshops for cancer patients; providing psychological and social lifelines for our local rural communities!

Once you are diagnosed with the C-word it is life long battle. But nothing is more lonely than treatment. And loosing your hair can be result of that battle. This becomes a stigma of the disease. We hope to fill the gap for cancer fighters to find more resources for creative community in building hats in The Smiley building; which is cheerful and upbeat hub for Durango.

In these workshops, patients and their families will have another to place to connect and been seen as something other than a patient; instead, they become an artist, a creator, and a designer of a hat that becomes a tool for their recovery!
